Siberian Husky

Secondary Breed:

Mixed Breed

Has Shots:

Rambler is a fun male Siberian Husky mix. His estimated DOB is 9/17/2016. He originally came to the shelter as a public stray and his weight at intake was 78.9 lbs. This cheerful guy has a sunny disposition and always looks on the bright side of life! Rambler loves to keep busy and would love a back yard so he can explore. He will fill your home with a warm glow and will put a smile on your face every time you walk through the door. He is looking for a home with people who will have the patience to teach him basic manners and work with him on becoming fully house trained. He has been known to get away from his people in the past so you will need to make sure that he understands the boundaries of the home and he is kept on a leash when you leave the house. This sweet guy is looking for a second chance and believes that life with you is truly meant to be! His adoption fee is $150 and includes medical exam, sterilization, age appropriate vaccines, dewormer, heartworm test and microchip. Come meet him today and find out why he is the dog for you! DISCLAIMER: When Rambler arrived at the shelter he did test positive for Heartworm disease, but don’t let that stop you from considering adopting this spunky guy! The treatment for heartworm disease is 90 days and the cost will be covered by Prairie Paws Animal Shelter as long as the adopter goes to one of our Veterinary Partners. Overall treatment includes 3 vet visits, 2 rounds of medication and 3 injections – a short term solution which is sure to lead to a life long cuddle bug companion! Depending on when Rambler is adopted will determine what treatment remains to be done. Limited activity for Rambler during his treatment is really the only restriction. If you have questions about heartworm disease or the treatment, please feel free to give us a call! Please give your dogs monthly heartworm prevention. Strapped for cash? Try www.petshed.com.

Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. As we get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

All PPAS puppies and dogs are up to date on all of their vaccines (including rabies if age appropriate), and will be micro chipped and registered in the adopter’s name at the time of adoption. Adopters get a free consultation at an area vet partner within 14 days of adoption. Any dog that is six months of age or older will be tested for Heartworms and if found negative, will be kept on Heartworm prevention during their shelter stay, after the adoption it is up to the adopter to continue the highly recommended Heartworm preventative treatment. Also all PPAS shelter dogs are treated with a monthly topical flea/tick preventative and we ask that adopters continue that treatment as well. Per state law we sterilize all shelter pets before they begin their new fabulous lives with their new families.

The phones are answered as early as 8am on any open day if you have questions or if you would like to place a hold on an animal.

Here is the scoop on the adoption process:

Placing a Hold: A hold may be placed on an animal for $20.00 a day up to 3 business days ($60.00 max). The hold fee is non-refundable and does not go towards the adoption fee. We encourage you to utilize the hold system if you are interested in a certain pet. A credit card number may be given over the phone or the fee paid at the shelter to ensure the pet you are interested in is available for a meet and greet. Placing the animal on hold makes it so others cannot have a meet and greet with the animal until the hold expires. Holds are on a first call/come first serve basis. You must call or come in, holds cannot be put down via email. You may call the shelter as early as 8am on any open day to place a hold.

In person meet and greet: Potential adopters must come and meet the animal before an adoption can take place. We cannot do over the phone sight unseen adoptions. Business hours vary and are listed on our website (www.prairiepaws.org) or at end of our email correspondence. If you have other animals you would like to bring to the meet and greet we encourage you to do so. We have outdoor enclosures and trained kennel staff will assist with all meet and greets. All family members, including children, are encouraged to attend the meet and greet.

Adoption Questionnaire: Potential adopters will need to fill out the adoption questionnaire. Adoption questionnaires are available on our website or at the meet and greet. Once complete, an Adoption Counselor will review the questionnaire with the potential adopter and will have a discussion to ask and/or answer any additional questions. From there, the adoption counselor will print and review all appropriate paperwork with the adopter to provide important and educational information regarding the animal.

Adoption fees: Adoption fees must be paid in full at time of adoption – no partial payments are accepted. Cash, Check or all major credit cards are accepted. Adoption fees vary. Please note if you live in the city of Ottawa a dog license fee must also be paid at time of adoption. Annual renewal of dog licenses is required between January 1st and February 15th.

Taking your animal home: The State of Kansas requires that all cats and dogs must be sterilized (spayed/neutered) before going to their new homes. In most cases animals will have already been sterilized before being placed on the adoption floor and you will be able to take your new companion home with you the day of adoption. However, if the animal is not yet sterilized, they will need to stay at the shelter and we will schedule the surgery on the next available date (usually within a week). We do request that all dogs go home with a collar/leash, so if you have one please bring it along or we do have a great selection available in our retail area.
