The City of Emporia, KS requires all dogs and cats 6 months or older residing within city limits to be licensed and inoculated against rabies within 3 days of being in the city. Licenses are renewed annually, are accompanied with a tag to be worn by the pet, and expire every year on December 31st.

Exemptions:

• If your pet is spayed/neutered and microchipped you are required to keep your pet rabies vaccinated, but you are not required to register your pet annually. Your rabies certificate should include spay/neuter status as well as the microchip number and can be used to prove exemption from pet registration. (All pets adopted from our shelters are exempt from pet registration).

• Ear-tipped community cats.

• Spayed/Neutered = $15.00/year

• Unaltered = $40.00/year

Buying Your License Online:

1. Make sure you reside within the city limits of Emporia KS, and your dog/cat has an unexpired rabies vaccination that expires after 1/2/2024. ​(If your rabies certificate will expire before this time then wait to re-vaccinate and then purchase a license).

2. Click the button below to submit the application. You will need to submit an application for each pet. (If you're encountering difficulties accessing the application, you may already have a profile with us. Please reach out to us via phone, and we'll assist you in updating your profile accordingly.)

3. Our team will review the information you submitted, create your license and assess the fee. You will receive a text message or email with a link to enter your credit card information. (If you have multiple pets you will only receive one payment link as long as you have submitted them on the same day).

4. Once payment has been received our team will mail you your tag and receipt.

Additional Information​

• The City of Emporia restricts the number of dogs and cats you can own to five (5), with no more than three (3) of those being cats and no more than three (3) being dogs.

• Replacement tags can be purchased for $5.00.
