Experienced Dog Groomer Needed:  Full time/ Commission Based Dog/Cat Groomer needed at animal shelter in Ottawa, KS. Only experienced, all breed dog groomers need apply. We are looking for an awesome, personable, upbeat, ambitious, conscientious groomer to join our team. Would prefer someone that is able to groom, shave down and bathe cats.

This is a skilled position so we require that applicants have gone to grooming school or have had extensive grooming experience and own basic grooming equipment, clippers, blades, combs, brushes and have/will properly maintain the equipment. Must be able to groom breed specific cuts, bathe, nails, and express anal glands. Prairie Paws will provide the space, table, shampoo, conditioner, a dryer, kennels, ear cleaner, styptic powder, cotton balls, etc. This is not a train on the job position. We require someone who is dependable and excels at time management and customer service skills and most importantly love working with animals and has the stamina to groom several dogs per day.

As a PPAS employee (commission based) working with the facility, the sky is the limit on how many days a week you want to work but we require a candidate who is willing to groom animals during the minimum of our 4 open days a week. Saturday hours are a MUST. Serious job seekers would need to show off their grooming skills during their interview.

Part Time Animal Care Associate Position Open:

(possible 15 -20 hours per week) – Availability Must Include Mon, Wed, Thursdays 7:30 am – 6 pm and Saturdays 7:30 am -4 pm. Shifts May Be Shorter on Those Days But We Are Always Looking For Experienced Candidates with Open Hours On Those Days. 

 

Performs routine animal care and related duties at Prairie Paws Animal Shelter. The work –train, feed, water, groom, bathe, and exercise animals, and clean, disinfect, and repair their cages. Also play with the animals, provide companionship, and observe behavioral changes that could indicate illness or injury. Must be comfortable with the public and have amazing customer service skills. Workers carry out daily assignments, follow through on matters, and use independent judgment and training to take appropriate actions to deal with standard recurring situations.

Essential Job Functions:

Cleans kennels and performs related housekeeping duties.

Performs shelter duties including giving dog or cat tours to potential adopters. Must be able to communicate information about the individual dog or cat to the potential adopter.

Being knowledgeable about domestic animal behavior in all situations.

Able to identifiable possible changes in animal behavior and health.

Maintains proper inventory levels of cleaning and other supplies. Informs the Lead when reordering

is necessary.

Other Duties

Performs related work as required.

Knowledge of–

– The basic methods and procedures of kennel cleaning.

-Animal Behavior – dogs, cats and small animals such as rats, gerbils, bunnies, and ferrets.

– Proper Customer service techniques

Ability to–

– Deal courteously with the public.

– Transmit messages clearly on the radio.

– Handle animals safely and effectively.

– Clean kennels efficiently.

– Identify animal behavioral changes

Required Qualifications: Any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills must be documented in your cover letter or on resume.

Training and/or Education

High school diploma or GED.

Experience

MUST have one year of related experience.

Valid driver’s license.

Physical Demands:

The work is performed in office and shelter surroundings. Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for long periods; lift and carry up to 70 pounds; lots of bending, reaching, holding, grasping and turning objects. Employee will work outside in a variety of weather conditions.

Work:

Work is subject to working on weekends and holidays. Hours are typically scheduled from 7:30 – 4pm or 8am – 6pm depending on coverage. Wage: $7.50 an hour, no benefits or vacation pay.

Lead Kennel Supervisor & Director of Operations
