The Gerbil Emergency Fund was set up by the wonderful person who adopted Gerbil and made her part of her family.
Gerbil, who is a seven and a half year old Pomeranian, was living in a Puppy Mill where she was severely neglected and possibly abused by her owners. Kansas Animal Health Department (KAHD) was alerted about the conditions at this Puppy Mill and consequently, seized the animals and brought a percentage of them to Prairie Paws Animal Shelter inc.
Gerbil happened to be in this particular seize and was found to be in poor health with a severe skin infection/condition, kidney problems. a tumor on her lip, and poor teeth. Upon arrival at the Shelter, she was immediately cared for to the extent that funds would allow, but her needs were so great that the Shelter was unable to afford to provide the level of care necessary to sustain her health.
Fortunately, her new owner heard about this little puppy mill dog and all of her special needs, and she was able to adopt Gerbil and provide care for her at home. Gerbil was adopted in April 2008 as a seven-and-a-half year old adult dog and now enjoys a warm home where she can find comfort and rest.
. This is Gerbil's journey from scared to secure and there are countless stories just like it. Know that YOU are contributing to success stories like this when you support Prairie Paws Animal Shelter.
